follow C&W on their Summer tour
First of all, this doesn’t have a thing to do with Burro other than the fact that Burro and Chicken & Whiskey are intimately inseparable entities at this point. Anyhow, Jack (VP), Big Dunn (seamster), Bert No Shirt (supporter), and Christopher Shinn (occasional photographer) are all on the road blazing trails across America playing keyboard party punk and freaking people out. Christopher is tagging along this tour videoing and tumbling the trip. We’re just over a week in and there’s a ton of content already up so give it a look-see and come check us out if we come through your town.

postcards from Matt
Received a postcard the other day from Matt…
I was going to transcribe what he wrote but it’s too vulgar even for this blog! Long and short of it was that he’s in NYC at a dog park, tried to check out The Grime store, and he misses the South already. Last I heard Matt was in Chicago which means he’ll probably be heading to Milwaukee and Minneapolis soon. Stay tuned for more details and don’t forget to hit Matt up at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) if you want to show him around your town.

Ohhhhh Pop Pop!

Burro Bags founder, Matt Bort (aka Pop Pop), is hitting the road on a cross-country bike tour. If all goes according to plan, he’ll be keeping us updated throughout his journey and I’ll be posting blogs for him as he travels the open road. No trip such as this would be complete without a few local guides along the way and perhaps a couch to crash on. If you’d like to show Matt some hospitality and maybe let him know what’s going on with bikes in your town, he’d love to meet with you along the way. You can email him at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and work out the details. One of the objectives of the trip is to see what’s happening in other cities and report on it. Don’t call it a scene check, Matt hates that shot. In fact, it’s part of the reason we call him Pop Pop. That and his toothlessness, love of napping and general curmudgeonry.
He checks into Chicago this Wednesday after which, he’ll follow on to Milwaukee, Madison and Minneapolis. If you reside anywhere around those towns, hit him up and show off your city. Stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, check out some pics of the whip and trip so far…

goodbye friend

This past week we said goodbye to a dear friend of ours, Jeremy “JJ” Adams. Jeremy was killed in a motorcycle accident at the tender age of only 20 years old. He lived as hard as he loved and we will miss him dearly.
I was reminded of this video and I think it captures his spirit pretty well. JJ fell down a lot and not just on his bicycle but he always got up. So glad this exists to remind us of him.

Jeremy has been a part of our lives here since we first met just over two years ago at Bury Your Bike 2. It was the start of a lasting friendship between the Burro/ZBBC crew here in Jacksonville and what was to become the Orlando ZBBC Chapter. As some lost touch or faded into their personal lives over the years, Jeremy always made sure to see us whenever we were in town visiting or for a Chicken & Whiskey show. He was always the first to roll up on his bike in a C&W, Big Dunn, or Burro shirt with a blunt ready to burn. Even the bars that he was banned from couldn’t keep him from sneaking in to watch us play. And every time we left, he made sure to hug us and tell us he loved us as if he knew that any moment could be his last.
For those who knew and loved JJ the way we did, a great absence is felt. Nothing can heal the pain we feel at his loss. All we have left are the memories, videos and photographs. That and each other. We’ll miss you Jeremy and we’ll never forget you. REST IN POWER!

Mike sent over this image of hisself Smith-grinding the streets of Williamsburg to promote his new signature strap, the Burro MTS Mudflap. In case you are just now joining us for this wild ride, we debuted the strap at NAHBS, released it for pre-order on 4/20 and have since shipped all open orders and taken the item down to re-stock for regular retail.
We also recently showed off the inserts that Mike designed for the initial launch. Right now, every set of ‘flaps come with a set of reversible inserts with realtree camo on one side and psychedelic oil spill on the other. They look really fresh but we’re convinced that there are more than a few budding creative types who will undoubtedly take it upon themselves to create their own custom inserts. Go for it amigos! In fact, stay tuned as we’ll be announcing a custom insert contest in the very near future. Consider this your head start.
But the good news is that as of 4:20pm EST today, the product will go live again and be available for purchase. Because of the insane amount of time and tedious work that these marvels of modern science require, we will be releasing them in limited quantities periodically to keep up with the rest of our stock. In other words, only a finite, limited number will be made available this afternoon and if the pre-sale was any indication, they’re going to move quick. Don’t sleep on it FrIENDS! You can find them here when it’s time.
RIDE FIRE!

DH photos
Our man on the scene in ATX, Leo Furmansky, snapped some ill shots of Team Burro’s Dennis Hicks shredding all over the remains of the recent Texas Toast BMX Event in Austin. I really dig this shoot. It’s not quite an F-U to BMX (Leo and Dennis both partake) but it has a defiant, mischievous feel to it. I don’t know, something like FGFS (or FGX as some have started calling it) doing some punk, unsanctioned shit on the detritus of a mainstream event. Whatever, I dig it.

Best part is, it allows me to segue right into a shameless product promotion. I look at these shots of Dennis grinding the Shadow Conspiracy coffinbox and I can but think of one thing - our newly available Chronic Pedal Strap Combo featuring the ever-badass Chronics as ridden by Dennis and the classic Shadow Conspiracy Ravager pedals. They’re a steal and you can only get them in our online shop. Both are available individually of course.

Sometimes this job is too easy!

update on Schmitt Pro Model straps
Our first batch of Mike Schmitt Pro Model Straps are shipping tomorrow so A+ to those of you who got yours in. As for the rest of you sleepers, we have some radical updates for dat azz.
First things first, we’ll go ahead and not comment on these. The truth is out thereā¦
There are a few major developments with this brand new, revolutionary product. The first is the official name change. In case you haven’t figured it out, I’m not so great at creating creative product names (Standard Messenger, seriously?) but luckily Mike has a vision and the creativity to match. From henceforth the Mike Schmitt Pro Model Pedal Straps shall be known exclusively as the Burro MTS Mudflaps. Learn it. Know it. Spread it like buttcheeks.

Second, Mike himself has designed the first version of custom inserts that will ship with all pre-orders and future orders. These look really sick but suffice it to say there will be more in the future. We like keeping it fresh just like you.

Finally, as we process our first shipment from the pre-order, we’ve taken down the product page. Sometime next week when we get caught up, the page will be active again and a limited number will be available for immediate purchase.
So stay tuned y’all. Lots more deets coming in the next week. Keep It Wheel!
