2012 ARTIST SERIES collaborations

Last month we debuted our 2012 ARTIST SERIES collection at our 4 Year Anniversary Party. Now you can see these amazing collaborations in our online store and own one for yourself!

This year we tried something a little different. In past years we treated our Artist Series as more of an art show, making as many as 25 unique bags using art from various contributors. This go round we figured the right thing to do was make a limited run of a few bags so that more of our online customers could have a chance to own one as well. We chose 6 designs and made 5 of each. We gave one to the designer, gave a couple away at the raffle and sold a few more. That means that there are only two or three of each bag remaining and we’re expecting them to move quick.

Boys No Good Hit the Road Repping BURRO

Jacksonville Pop Punk band tours North America with brand new BURRO gear.

The cat is officially out of the bag! The BURRO Lab has been secretly developing a line of gear designed to accommodate the needs of the touring musician. For many of us, music has and always will be our first love. We’ve been playing in bands and going to shows for more than half our lives and we realized that musicians need bags and stuff too.

A while back we decided to develop some products, starting out with the basics - guitar straps, stick bags, etc. Just like we do with our pedal straps with FGFS riders, we figured the best way to spread the word was to equip some of our favorite regional bands that get out and tour.

Enter Boys No Good. The band itself is only a couple years old but these dudes are no strangers to touring life. With members from bands like Casey Jones and Kids Like Us, they are practically legends in the Florida punk / hardcore scene. They recently left Jacksonville to embark on a North American tour with Death Before Dishonor, Casey Jones, No Bragging Rights and Hundredth. Before they hit the road, they stopped by the shop and we hooked them up with some sweet gear and 50 limited edition hand-screened posters.

For the guitarists and bassist, we made some custom guitar straps that are way more comfortable and durable than any other strap on the market.

When we put the BURRO name on something, you know it’s handmade in the USA and built to last!

For Bob, the drummer, we made a rad stick bag and super-padded cymbal bag. We’ll be pumping out some snare, tom and bass drum bags soon!

BURRO is proud to announce that we will once again be participating in the North American Handmade Bicycle Show. This year it all goes down in Sacremento, CA. As you may recall, last year’s show was a huge success for us especially in establishing a local presence in Austin and we’re hoping the same thing will happen for us in California. We’ll be showcasing some new products and designs that are being kept tightly under wraps for the moment. We’ll also be looking for sales reps to represent us in California so show up and bring a resume if you’re interested. More to follow so stay tuned!

Letter Shop In-Store: Khann

If you recall, we invited our Orlando friends, Khann, to play an in-store performance back on November 16th. Now that the holiday rush is more or less over, the pics have surfaced and been uploaded to our Flickr page. Check the photos by R. Ryan Shinn.

The show was badass. I suggest listening to their latest album, Erode, whilst you peruse the photos.

Khann was the first band that we chose to sponsor with our upcoming line of handmade sewn accessories for the touring musician. We are still in the product testing phase, letting bands such as Khann, Boys No Good and Swear Jar test them out and give us feedback. Rest assured there will be many more bands on our roster and new products in our repertoire in the future. Stay tuned!

Happy Holidays!

Christmas is right around the corner and I’m pretty sure Hanukkah is in full swing by now. We hope everyone is having a joy-filled holiday season and gets everything they asked for. I know I still have some last minute shopping to do and you probably do too. You should do what I do and postpone your gift-giving until the crowds have died down and the after-xmas sales are in full swing. Or you just say, “I ordered you something and it’s still in the mail.” Bottom line is, if you order now, you probably won’t get it before Christmas. In fact, we’ll be taking some time off here and there between now and the new year, so if you order something that happens to be on backorder, it might take a while. To compensate (and to generate a few bucks so that we can buy some gifts), we’re offering 20% off with coupon code “burromas” from now until January 1st. 904Fixed has put together one hell of a race. It’s going to involve carrying a package so a bag of some sort is necessary. You’ll also need lights and probably a helmet. Ride how you want to ride but quite frankly not using a helmet is like not using a condom, except there’s no morning-after pill that magically puts your brains back in your head if you’re less than lucky. So yeah, definitely a bag. You’re old you-know-whatSport might work but like I said, 25% off in the shop. Wear it for the race and then give it to your brother since you haven’t gotten him anything yet anyway, I don’t know but we have bills to pay so just buy one already! BURRO 4 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARTY

We’ve been preparing for this party for a while now. We think it’s going to be the best one yet and the even better news is we managed to get just about everything done in time so we won’t be killing ourselves tonight! If you’re still debating what to do Saturday night, I strongly encourage you to come party with us. Those who have attended either one of the old BBB Art Shows or last year’s Bags in Toyland show know how we like to get down this time of year. Now we have our own bar so you can only imagine what we have in store. We’ve taken the best elements of past years’ events, learned some lessons and added some things we think should be pretty radical.

BURRO 2012 Artist Series Preview
Our annual bag art show is now a BURRO holiday tradition. Check out the 2009 and 2010 pics. We’ve tried doing it a few different ways over the years, from open calls with no restrictions, to standardizing the stipulations and inviting select artists and this year we’re trying something a little new. We love having so many awesome bags but after spending all-nighters hopped up on Red Bull for the past few years we decided to scale things back and do something a little more practical. Rather than do one-offs of 20+ different bags, we hit up some of the artists that have been with us since the very beginning and made limited runs of 5. This year’s featured artists include Mark George, Tact, Squid Dust, Duval Destroyer, Ian Chase and SNK/SWM (formerly Sink Or Swim). Our neighbors and culinary mad scientists over at Chomp Chomp are sponsoring a hot dog eating contest. We’ve got a few alreadt registered but check with us the night of if you want to get in on the carnage. Ian Chase will emcee with DJ Chef Rocc. It’s going to get pretty stupid and we’re just getting started!

Up-and-coming local hardcore band Swear Jar will perform. Even if you aren’t in to HC, you owe it to yourself to check these guys out, they will surprise you. They practice here at the shop so they’re practically family. Prepare yourselves.

We are excited to host our dear dear friend and partner in grime, Zack Fortune’s latest project, NOMADIX, for their world debut! These guys are just getting off the ground but you’ll be able to see them before they blow up before anyone else. Have a listen and tell me I’m wrong.

BURRO 4 Year Anniversary Party!

Next Saturday, we here at BURRO will be celebrating our fourth year making handmade messenger bags, cycling accessories and apparel in Jacksonville. We’ve had our ups and downs over the years but because of our wonderful customers, we’ve been able to live the dream of running our own business making quality products for some of the most awesome people in the world!

As a thank you of sorts, we are hosting an evening full of fun with a little something for everyone.

You already know about the race, now brace yourself for the rager of the year! This amazing poster designed by our new friend, Waxfang, speaks for itself.

Immediately following the Holiday Deliverycat Race hosted by 904Fixed, we are kicking off what serves as our annual birthday/holiday party. In classic BURRO fashion, we will be throwing down hard with several special events and guests scheduled throughout the event.

Tradition requires that we present to you our new run of Artist Series bags. We’ve changed things up a bit this year however. Rather than many one-off bags, we’ve narrowed the field down to a handful of veteran contributors and created limited runs that will be available for sale. We’ll also be raffling off a couple along with some amazing prizes that we’ll teas later on. Check out our 2009 and 2010 Artist Series bags on our Flickr.

We’re super stoked about our entertainment. We’ve got Jacksonville hardcore band Swear Jar, one of our sponsored bands and rising stars in the scene.

BURRO is proud to present the world debut of NOMADIX, a project of none other than Sink or Swim / Team Burro’s Zack Fortune along with Mr. Kramer and NCABRAM. This is NYC and LA’s finest performing for the first time in Jacksonville. That HAS to be a first!
