Miguel Reyes joins the Team Burro Polo Squad
When Jack told me about Miguel getting on Burro, I was super stoked to know I would be shooting pictures of another long term friend. Burro guys really know what kind of dudes to rep. Miguel is a talented BMX rider so it blew me away that a badass polo rider would come from a BMX background. I’m stoked for Miguel to be pushing himself in such a sport. Meeting up with him and catching up was awesome. He showed me his Polo bike and all the sick parts that Burro hooked him up with. Expect much more news from Miguel Reyes. Texas goes hard!

Antonyo moves to SoCal
It would seem that over the past couple of years, Southern California has evolved into a FGFS mecca of sorts. I suppose with it’s temperate weather and unlimited shit to do and see it’s more or less an all-around mecca of sorts but all the same, a convergence of great fixed freestyle riders is gathering there and riding together year-round pushing the sport/activity/hobby/whatever further and further through this supernatural synergy.
The latest of transplants is Team Burro’s Antonyo Wothe who recently moved there from Milwaukee. As this short clip indicates, he seems to be doing well acclimatizing and all that.
Before he left, he complied this set of clips with good ol’ Sam Erickson for Wrahw. I sure hope there are some good riders left in the Midwest for Sam to capture!

I think it’s pretty interesting that FGFS has developed to the point where kids are actually moving to certain hotspots to pursue it. I’m curious to see which, if any, other cities are able to sustain and foster such a healthy, vibrant scene as Long Beach and the surrounding area has.

recap of the Mini Drome
WHOA! This past Thursday I went down to Orlando for the first ever Red Bull Mini Drome held in the U.S. Burro has had a long, close relationship with Red Bull in the Southeast. They’ve supported our events and we’ve participated in theirs again and again over the past few years. We were stoked when they asked us to be involved in the planning process and ultimately create the prize bag for the winner.
Suffice it to say, the event was a blast! Whether cycling or fixed gears are your thing or not, the Mini Drome is one wild spectacle either way. More than a few people couldn’t even ride the damn thing, much less get the speed necessary to qualify for the races. I was surprised to see many different styles of bicycle represented. From fancy track bikes to trick frames to single speeds, everyone was allowed to at least try it out. Although Ronnie did have to take his pegs off first at least, haha!
What was even more surprising was that those fancy track bikes didn’t even seem to help as the faster riders were those with the smaller ratios, particularly single speeds and trick bikes. And what was even more surprising than that was who came out on top. Pro BMX-er Chad DeGroot took third on a single speed, Ronnie Govoruhk came in second on his fgfs bike and Jackosnville’s very own newcomer, Addison Zawada brought home the gold on a freakin’ Motobecane (the kid’s only been riding fixed for a month or so!).
There were a handful of nasty spills that were just gnarly enough to be entertaining without causing too much injury. The venue was set up perfectly to allow a good view of all the action, of which there was plenty. For five hours we watched people ride around in circles and it never once got boring. That should tell you something.
The event was a huge success in my opinion and a very positive thing for the Florida fixed gear scene. Big ups to Red Bull for taking a chance with it, Ace Metric and Horroh for building the scene and all of the kids who came out to participate and spectate.

get up

It could possibly be the dawning of a new era in Jacksonville. Our friends at Reddi-Arts, the local art supply retailer is now carrying Montana products. To celebrate the launch of the new product line, they are throwing a little partay this Saturday and they’re calling it Dawn of the Montana. When they approached us to sponsor, we were pretty stoked. We’ve fooled around with some graffiti-related product designs over the years but never had the time or connections to really break in to the market. Well in light of this and other recent developments, we’ve decided to give it another go.
Jacksonville street artist Chris “Mad Man” McAlister will be demoing some of our new prototypes at the event and we’re excited to see how they work out and get some feedback.
Stay tuned for updates on this new product line. If you have suggestions or requests for specific graffiti-related products, be sure to contact us and let us know.

Red Bull Mini Drome comes to the States (OUR STATE!)

The great state of Florida has been chosen to host the first ever Red Bull Mini Drome in the USA! Our dear friends at Red Bull have chosen The Firestone in Orlando as the site for this groundbreaking event. They’ve been working closely with our friends at Ace Metric to help organize and tapped Burro to create three prize bags for the winners. We tried our hand at embroidery for the first time and went a little crazy on some top-secret extra features that may find their way into the regular product line in the near future. We’re stoked to support this groundbreaking event and honored to be chosen to provide the prizes. If you don’t make it out to this you’re going to be missing something truly amazing. Who knows when something like this will come through again?!
