Limited BURRO Tote Bags to Benefit the KONA School
Several months ago, our friend Daniel from VOLCOM East approached us with a grip of old promotional materials that he and VOLCOM wanted to put to good use. VOLCOM is one of many forward-thinking brands that embraces sustainability and eco-conscious values. Needless to say, we were more than happy to oblige in their efforts to become a greener business and reduce waste.
Daniel brought us an old VOLCOM DESTROYS BORDEOM billboard, some tent-tops, banners and other branded materials for us to do with as we please. As it turned out, just a coupe of weeks later was Go Skate Day which benefitted the KONA School, a concept school now in the planning stages here in Jacksonville that uses a blended learning environment model. You skateboarding types out there may already be familiar with KONA Skatepark, one of the oldest operating private skateparks in the world. Who wouldn't want to go to school at a skatepark?! Key among their values are sustainability and entrepreneurship - two things we feel very strongly about here at BURRO. It seemed pretty natural that this would be a perfect project to help using the collaboration.
So here's what we did. Using VOLCOM's materials which they donated to the cause, we made a limited run of tote bags out of the billboard. A portion of the proceeds will go towards building the start-up capital the school needs to become a reality. This is just the first run as we determine what to do with and how best to use all the material we received. We are very excited about this opportunity to help raise awareness (and possibly a little money) for this progressive and exciting approach to education.
